London City Singers, spring 2008

About us ....

The London City Singers was formed in 2007 by a group of singers who wanted to start a new chorus in central London. These women had a vision of the chorus they wanted: it had to be lively, non-classical, focused on individual vocal development as well as group excellence, and be motivated to achieve a high standard of performance.

What is special about the London City Singers? We sing a cappella four-part harmony music that is arranged in the barbershop style, which means that the tune is surrounded by harmony parts both above and below. This creates a unique sounding chord that makes use of the natural overtones that voices can create. Women with voices of all ranges, from low to high, can find a part that suits them.

The style of singing is more 'pop' than classical and the choice of music reflects this, with the repertoire including show-tunes, popular songs from the 1930s to today, as well as classic barbershop arrangements. There are strong links to musical theatre in that most songs are choreographed, and performing skills are a key element in making a song work.
